Lee Corfield extended his lead in the Total Triumph Order of Merit thanks to a two-under-par round of 69 at Mendip Spring but he had to share pole position with Luke Gaskins.
Burnham & Berrow’s Corfield set the standard by reaching the turn in two-under and then making amends for a double bogey at the 11th with birdies at 13 and 17.
Gaskins, however, was up for the challenge. He followed up his fine back nine in the previous event with a high-octane start.
The pro from Brickhampton Court holed his chip shot for an eagle at the first en route to reaching the turn in three-under.
A birdie at the par-five 13th atoned for a dropped shot at the 11th before his second bogey of the round at the penultimate hole cost him outright victory.
Clevedon’s Ash Mansell was the only other member of the field to break par, his round of 70 earning him third place a shot clear of the host club’s George Ryall.
Gloucester Golf Centre’s Jamie Dick and Gaskins’ clubmate Ross Langdon posted one-over-par rounds of 72 to finish tied fifth.
Finally, massive thanks are due to Mendip Spring’s greenkeeping team for getting the course playable after a weekend of heavy rain.
