Lee Corfield extended his lead of the Total Triumph Order of Merit by winning the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Codrington Medal at The Players Club, Bristol.
It was the Burnham & Berrow Assistant’s third victory of the campaign but his first outright. And he achieved it in dominant style, posting a four-under-par total of 68.
In doing so, he was the only player to break par but his round came alive from the ninth hole onwards.
He was two-over-par at that stage but, taking advantage of the reduced distance on both the ninth and 11th par fives, the big hitter eagled them both.
He followed up with birdies at 15 and 17 to finish four shots clear of five players who negotiated the course in regulation to share second place.
The quintet comprised: Corfield’s club-mate Shane Kaye, George Burnett from the Liam Bond Golf Academy, Bath Golf Club’s James Hannam, Mark Plummer of Cirencester Golf Club, and Filton Golf Club’s Giuseppe Licata.
Despite finishing second Licata lost ground in the Order of Merit and now trails Corfield by 37 points.
