Corsby relishes packed playing schedule

Fleetwood PGA Professional Dave Corsby is relishing the opportunity to represent his childhood club in the heat of battle over the course of 2016.

Corsby, of Fleetwood Golf Club, will kick start his playing year in earnest on May 17 when he takes to Delamere Forest, below, for the regional qualifier of the Titleist & FootJoy PGA Professional Championship.

The £78,000 event, the flagship championship for club professionals in Great Britain and Ireland, will culminate with a final at The Oxfordshire in July.

And the 28 year old is hopeful he will be able to pen that date in the diary alongside a packed schedule on the PGA Europro Tour, from which he hopes to qualify for Europe’s second tier tour, the Challenge Tour, at the end of the year.

“I’ve been playing well so far this year,” he explained. “It’s been a long winter but we’re lucky at Fleetwood that we have a great indoor facility which means I’ve been able to practise even when the weather hasn’t been great.

“I felt I played well last year and really want to build on that. I didn’t qualify for the final of this event, though, so I want to change that this year.”

Corsby is currently loving life at Fleetwood, where he has been based since he was a junior member at just 12 years old.

“I feel like I’ve been at Fleetwood my entire life,” Corsby smiled.

“I must have been there 14 or 15 years now and I still love being around the place. Five years ago I became attached there as a club professional and haven’t looked back.

“I do a lot of coaching for the members and it’s nice to be able to represent the club as a fully qualified PGA Professional.

“They’re really supportive of me going out and playing the game and hopefully I can make the most of that and have a good year on the course this year.”

Other players competing in the regional qualifier at Delamere Forest include: PGA Pro-Captain Challenge champion Andrew Barnett (Pennant Park), Craig Corrigan (Chilli Dip), former champion Simon Edwards (Windermere), Grant Hamerton (Pike Fold), Matthew Pritchard (Northop Counry Park) and Lee Rooke (Royal St David’s).
