For the first time in the PGA North region, two of its major counties will come together to form a series of events aimed at elongating the season into the colder winter months.
The PGA in Lancashire & PGA in Cheshire & North Wales have come together to create a series of events that will span the winter months and help create a competitive calendar for its members further into the season.
PGA North Regional Manager, Jonathan Paine, commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity to try something unheralded in the Region. The aim of these series of events is to create a positive playing schedule heading into the winter months.
“We undertook a small members survey earlier in the season and the overriding response was that members would like some competitive golf events in the Winter months, of course we are not blessed with the best weather at any point in the year but we hope that by holding these events in the earlier part of the winter months will help get some great golf in for our Members.”
The series is broken into two categories; there will be three Professional only County Members Tours and three pairs events that can be created by forming teams of Pro/Pro, Pro-Am & Am/Am.
Paine continued: “We hope that by broadening our appeal of events we can create a fantastic series that will grow from strength to strength, with six events before Christmas and six events in the early part of 2020."
The PGA County Members Tour will again include separate sections for PGA Assistants and Senior Members of both counties & Region.
Paine added: “We hope that at this quieter time of year we may see some of our membership that do not have the time to play with us in the busier Summer months."
The pairs series gets underway at Northop Golf & Country Club on 7th October with the Members Tour getting underway on the 28th at Davyhulme Park Golf Club.
