Cowper claims PGA Kent crown at Prince’s

21/08/2019

Craig Cowper (Surrey Downs) is the new PGA Kent Open champion, shooting two impressive rounds of 69 and finishing with a birdie three at the final hole to win with a 6-under-par total of 138.

In two days of blustery conditions over re-imagined Himalayas-Shore layout measuring nearly 7,300 yards, Cowper led from start to finish to secure another Virgin Atlantic PGA Order of Merit title for the PGA South stalwart.  He edged Zak Morgan’s total of 5-under by one stroke to take the winner’s cheque for £2,000, whilst In third spot was Adam Clough (PGolfCoaching@Pedham) one shot further back, despite their best of the week final rounds of 68.

Cowper was delighted with his game, saying: “I played extremely solid in tough, windy conditions. My driving was especially strong and the key to my steadiness, helping me set up pars and better. My irons were good, as was my getting up and down in two when required.”

The new PGA Kent Open champion added: “I think I only missed a couple of fairways in two rounds, which really helped me set up two good rounds.  Prince’s was superb and the changes make it a really tough but fair challenge, and a true match now for any other links course.”

In the Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit, Jordan Godwin (Barnehurst) added some more points in coming fifth, taking him into a slender lead ahead of Andy Raitt (St. George’s Hill).

The next Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit tournament is the CK Group PGA Southern Professionals Championship at Kings Hill, West Malling on September 3rd and 4th.
