Graham Fox’s purple patch continued when he won the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship Scotish qualifying event at Musselburgh Golf Club.
The Clydeway Golf professional was last week named as the captain’s pick to make the Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup line-up to face the USA at CordeValle Golf Club in California in September.
And he stayed in form by teaming up with regular fourball partner Alan Reid, of West Lothian Golf Club, to win at the Edinburgh venue by two shots after a six-under-par round of 65.
They finished ahead of Playsport Golf duo Peter Scanlan and Anthony Mackrell.
They will join two other qualifiers at the £35,000 grand final at Carden Park in Cheshire between August 12-14.
Fomer Great Britain international Julie Otto (Elie Links) and Fraser Robertson (Lundin Golf Club) along with the Newcastle pairing of George Cowan and Michael Nesbit (Westerhope Golf Club) also made it through.
Fox admits that his results in recent weeks have been a reward for hard work.
“It’s not been a bad few days with the PGA Cup pick as well,” he said.
“But I’ve got a couple of toddlers at home so practice time is rare.
“I tend to get out on the course around 6am and put in some quality time on the course for an hour or so.
“It’s all a bit hectic at the moment but worth it, you can sleep when you’re dead!”
The Fourball final comes a month before he flies out to the States - and he is anticipating a busy month.
“It’s good to get to the final, but I don’t necessarily see it as a warm up for the PGA Cup,” he said.
“July looks quiet but I plan to play a lot in August.”
Fox has never reached the Fourball final before and only entered after a successful winter showing with Reid.
“We played some events earlier in the year and won six out of nine of them,” he said.
“So we decided to try and keep that going by entering the qualifier at Musselburgh.
“It was good for Alan too as he just missed out on making the PGA Pro-Am Championship final when he played at Crieff the day before.”
