It came as little surprise when Dan Hendriksen won the Devon PGA medal at Churston.

Hendriksen learned to play on the course as an amateur and later as assistant professional. His family is synonymous with the club as brother Paul was also a member.

But the now secretary-manager at nearby Torquay Golf Club had to share top spot with Christian Vine (Woodbury Park) on level par 70, worth 36 stableford points.

He dropped shots at the first and sixth holes but successive birdies at the seventh and eighth and ten successive pars proved decisive. Not surprisingly his previous win was also at Churston, 30 months ago.

Vine found the par threes a problem and dropped his first shot at tricky opening hole and others at the eighth and 17th. He added birdies at the second, 11th and 14th.

Gary Milne (Exeter), Neil Holman (Torbay), Kevin Harper (Sidmouth), Michael Cayless (Dainton Park) and Paul Hendriksen (Dinnaton) were a further shot back.
