There is no stopping former European Tour winner David Dixon in the South West this year as he simply can’t stop winning in style.
The Enmore Park touring player took the first Order of Merit tournament at Saunton by five strokes and followed with a ten-under-par return in winning at Minchinhampton.
His latest triumph – his third in succession – was another five-shot success in the Sherborne Pro-am as he took his winnings to almost £5,000 already this season.
He actually made one bogey – at the par three seventh – but more than compensated with birdies at the second, sixth, eighth, tenth, 17th and 18th, adding an eagle at the 497-yard par five 11th to card a seven-under-par 65.
This left Paul Hendriksen (Dinnaton) and Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) sharing second on 70 with only Chris Gill (Newquay), Brian Lee (Parc Golf Academy) and George Ryall (Players Club) on 71 as the only other players in the 36–strong field to better par.
The consistent Hendriksen achieved his third runner-up spot of the season and made 16 pars and two birdies at the third and fourth. Thompson started badly by dropping a shot at the first, but rallied with birdies at the eight, tenth and 17th.
Dixon’s sensational play helped South West Signs take the team award on 85 points alongside Gary Miller, Kevin Costigan and Mark Lawrence. The Golden Balls group of Steve Williams, Nigel Staffiere and Steve Dewfall led by Nick Horrocks were second on 84 while Came Down & Co, Steve Roberts, Rob Price and Matt Walker, led by Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) beat three teams on countback for third on 83.
Hannah Barwood (Bristol Golf Centre) led the Kings Arms trio of Sarah Lethbridge, Sue Newton and Chrissy Bryant to success in the women’s event.
