Teenager David Grindell (right) has teed up a first by becoming the inaugural student on the PGA In Scotland’s Modern Apprentice scheme.
Grindell is employed by head PGA Professional Mel Douglas (left) of the Inverness Golf Centre, at Inverness Golf Club, where he has recently started his vocational studies in Leisure Management with the Sports Academy of Scotland.
The 18 year old is a local lad to the club and has worked at the golf centre since leaving school and has quickly become an important member of the staff team.
The apprentice programme is endorsed and supported by Galvin Green/GORE-TEX and the Sports Academy of Scotland.
During his 13 month apprenticeship Grindell will complete a number of vocational units which will help him further develop his skills, knowledge and understanding of all aspects of golf club management and golf development.
'I am really looking forward to starting on my Leisure Management portfolio as I am sure it will really help me in my job at the Inverness Golf Centre. “It is a great idea to continue to learn while you earn," he said.
Eric Dawes, director at the Sports Academy of Scotland, added: “David is an ideal first candidate on the PGA In Scotland Modern Apprentice Programme and has all the personal attributes needed to be a great success in the golf industry.
“Congratulations must also go to Mel Douglas for endorsing the educational aspirations of his staff through forwarding David into the programme."
