Gareth Davies capitalised on his experience competing at European Tour level to win the PGA North 36-hole pro-am played at Nefyn and Royal St David’s.

The head professional at Yorkshire club Abbeydale, who has beaten some of the world’s best players including five major champions, posted 65 and 71 to prevail by two shots.

But he did not have the best of starts at Nefyn where he bogeyed the opening two holes before racking up five birdies on his way to three-under par 65

Deteriorating conditions impacted on the second round at Royal St David’s where he leaked five shots but a trio of birdies enabled him to sign for a 71 for a one-under aggregate.

Pwllheli’s Mark Pilkington and fellow former tour player Phil Archer, fresh from helping GB&I retain the PGA Cup against the United States, were two shots back.
