Chris Davis (Trent Park) made a birdie at the final hole to claim the Middlesex Professionals’ Championship title at Wyke Green.
Davis recorded a 142 total after rounds of 69 and 73 to pip James Taverner (Hendon) by a shot.
Conditions were very difficult but Davis held his own with the elements, not least in the morning round.
He notched up five birdies in recording a level-par score, two better than home Professional Tim Owers.
If anything, the wind and the rain worsened for the afternoon play in which Taverner launched a strong challenge.
Davis’ own bid looked like being derailed with an eight at the par-4 fourth hole. But he got his round back on track and produced a rock solid inward nine.
Having strung together a series of pars from the ninth, he made a three down the last to pick up an all-important stroke that delivered him victory.
Taverner’s rounds of 72 and 71 left him second at five-over, while Martin Chalcraft (N1 Golf Academy) was third on 146.
