David Dixon’s two-shot triumph at Cirencester has helped him reached heights never before experienced in the West as it was his fifth win in the last seven regional events he entered.
Dixon (above) was runner-up and third in the others and started the season with a share of fourth place in the Cornish Festival followed by second spot in the Mitie Pro-am at Bigbury.
He has taken his winnings to £7,636 from 13 rounds, all completed in fewer than 70 shots. The best were ten-under 61 at Minchinhampton, nine-under 62 over Saunton’s West course and eight-under 64 at Ross-on-Wye. His seven-under 63 at Cirencester maintained the sequence of low rounds.
The Enmore Park touring player’s collective return so far translates into 59-under-par and he averages prize money of £848 from each event.
The former St Omer Open winner during his European Tour days started with three birdies, added two more at the sixth and ninth after shedding a shot at the fifth. Another birdie at the 12th and an eagle at the 17th completed his latest fine day.
But he was pressed by another consistent former Tour player Sion Bebb (Morlais Castle) and Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) who is returning to his best scoring form as well.
Bebb made six birdies and his sole bogey at the last cost him outright second. Watson also made six birdies and dropped his only shot at the 10th. But Tom Motley (South Cerney) produced the day’s most adventurous round making nine birdies and six bogeys.
He shared fifth with Paul Jones (Canford Magna) while Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) claimed fourth on 66.
Dixon is also popular with his amateur playing partners for he completed a hat-trick of team wins, this time with Phillip, Alex and Duncan Newport-Black. They beat Motley’s crew of Phillip Franklin, Brian Hobbs and Ben Marsh on countback after bother had scored 125.
They were followed one shot behind by Stuart Little (Minchinhampton), Dan Edgeworth, David Brown and Mike Edgeworth.
