Welshman James Maxwell won the PGA in Devon Exeter Ladies pro-am individual and led home the second placed team to enjoy his best day in Devon in a field of 45 at Exeter Golf and Country Club.
The former Trefloyne PGA Professional who joined Teign Valley as head teaching professional nine months ago from Thornbury Golf Centre was one of the few players to conquer the front nine. Four birdies at the first, third, sixth and eighth and two dropped shots took him out in 33.
He returned in the same number with further gains at 13, 14 and 18 for a four-under return of 66 which earned an impressive four-shot advantage.
Richard Dinsdale (Parc Golf Club/Asbri Golf) threatened to take second place alone following his fourth birdie on the 16th which took him to two-under. But he tied for the runners-up position after taking seven at the par-four 17th.
Devon PGA secretary Christian Vine (Woodbury Park) went out in plus-three 38 but rallied with birdies at the 16th and 18th. James Pickard (Honiton) recovered from posting seven on the third with birdies at 14 and 18 for his 70.
Dominic Rehaag (China Fleet) suffered mixed fortunes on his return to a former club. After shedding six shots on the front nine he made an eagle two at the 14th and birdies at the 13th and 18th to share in a six-way tie for fifth on 71.
He joined Steve Buzza (Clifton Hill), Tom Jessamine (Woodbury Park), James Ruth (China Fleet), Richard Sadler (Killiow) and Richard O'Hanlon (St Kew).
