Dewhurst Returns To Win

Martin Dewhurst celebrated his arrival back in Bristol from Austria by winning the Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal at Stinchcombe Hill.

He shared top spot with home assistant and course specialist Mark Pitcher both returning five-under-par rounds of 63 in the Cotswolds.

Dewhurst, who won at Forest Hills last year, has spent his last dozen summers teaching in Europe, mainly in Austria where he is now head pro at the Worthersee/Velden Golf Club. During the winter season he returns to Bristol to compete in county events.

On a sunny day it was a case of birdies galore and level par only just made it into the top ten. Pitcher, who also won last year, shot 30 on the front nine and added two further birdies on the way home in a blemish-free round to set the early pace.

Dewhurst started with a birdie, added another at the eighth after his only bogey and picked up four more shots on the back nine.

Enmore Park’s David Dixon started with three consecutive bogeys before rallying with seven birdies, four over the final four holes for an unlikely 64.

This was matched by Daryl Kelley (Filton) who was also over par early in his round. But he carded seven threes in his final ten holes.

Chipping Sodbury’s Giuseppe Licata shared fifth with Henbury’s Luke Derrick on 65. He stretched his lead to ten points over George Ryall (Worlebury) in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.
