Enmore Park’s David Dixon won the Gloucester & Somerset PGA medal on his first appearance of 2019 thanks to a stunning back nine of just 30 strokes at Lansdown.
His five-under-par 66 brought a three stroke advantage over Weston-super- Mare assistant Dan Toogood who enjoyed his best result of the season.
After numerous false starts thanks to the weather over recent years 27 players enjoyed glorious February sunshine. With only a light wind blowing some testing pin positions fully tested the players during their rounds.
Dixon opened with a birdie before he dropped his only stroke at the ninth. Then he birdied five of the next six holes to clinch his third win of the season as well as both the birdie and back nine sweep.
Toogood made his three birdies on the front nine. Martin Dewhurst and Saltford amateur Johnny Grace shared third on 70, one ahead of George Ryall (Mendip Spring), Luke Derrick (Henbury) and Andrew March (Brean).
Two other sporting stars swapped their bats and boots for golf clubs. Somerset county cricketer Peter Trego and Gloucester rugby’s Matt Banahan held their own with the professionals.
Ed Goodwin (Cirencester) consolidated his Total Triumph Order of Merit lead once again over the absent Giuseppe Licata (Filton) with Ryall now closing in.
