Enmore Park touring player David Dixon followed his fine display in the winning PGA Cup team by claiming top place in the Gloucester and Somerset medal at Mendip Spring with a two-under-par 69.

Dixon, playing in the final group, made six threes, including birdies at the first, fifth and ninth, over the front nine to reach the turn in 32.

He carded further birdies at the 12th, 15th and 18th to offset a bogey at the difficult 11th and a double bogey seven at the 16th. Further riches came his way when he pocketed the birdie sweep money.

Ross Langdon (Gloucester) finished runner-up for the second successive week on 70 but he did move to the top of the Total Triumph Order of Merit.

He opened with back to back birdies and made another at the ninth to turn at level par after dropping three shots. His final birdie came at the 16th.

The Somerset venue hosted a medal for the first time on a chilly but sunny day.  Former Mendip Spring club champion Dan Toogood, now assistant at Weston-super-Mare, returned to take third on 71. He made a superb fightback after struggling at four over through seven holes.

Louis Boston (Windmill Golf Academy), another player who has shown consistent early season form, shot 72 for fourth. David Haines (Burnham and Berrow), Nick Ellis (Naunton Downs) and Knowle assistant David Williams shared fifth on 74. Haines and Ellis shared the Over 40’s sweep.
