David Dixon has his heart set on regaining his European Tour card, after claiming an impressive victory in the final regional event of the year.
The Enmore Park man, 36, shared his win with Paul Hendriksen (Dinnaton), after both players carded three-under-par 68s over the famous Burnham and Berrow links, just a few miles from Dixon’s Bridgwater home.
It was Dixon’s fourth win in 19 starts, after victories at Torquay, Woodbury Park and in the Race to Woodbury Park Forest Classic, and he started well with birdies at the first and fourth.
Dropped shots at the sixth and seventh set him back but he repaired the damage at the eighth, 13th and 16th.
Hendriksen, whose bid to reach the Titleist Play-Offs for the third successive year were dashed as he only finished fourth in the Order of Merit, was also two under the card after gains at the fourth and sixth.
A bogey at seven and another at the 14th checked his progress, but birdies at the ninth, 15th and 18th completed a fine round for his sixth win of a successful year.
Richard O’Hanlon (Point at Polzeath) threatened after picking up shots at the fourth, fifth and 13th but a dropped shot at the short 14th.
Another lapse at the last ended his challenge so he settled for third on 70.
He was joined by Adam Frayne who has prospered in the region since quitting mini-tour golf to settle down as a trainee with Tim McSherry at Yelverton.
Frayne gathered four birdies, but suffered a double bogey at the seventh and lost another shot at the 12th.
Home assistant Shane Kaye and Barry Austin (Downes Crediton), who overcame a run of four successive bogeys from the fifth to return in three-under-par 32, shared fifth on level-par.
Frayne took the team prize with 83 points helped by Aaron Dougherty, Barry Nicholson and Alan Clitheroe. Kaye was second on 80 with amateurs Alan Hughes, Marino Griffiths and Phil Worth with Hendriksen in third on 77 with Peter Morgan, Ian Perkes and Jonathan Phillips.
