Enmore Park touring professional David Dixon warmed up for his visit to the final stage of European Tour Qualifying with his first victory of the season in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal at Bath Golf Club.
He was the only player to match the par of 71 in testing conditions and beat Rod Hibbitt (Cotswold Edge) by one shot.
Another day of poor weather – this time it was a wet and misty day - but the Sham Castle course remained playable despite persistent rain as the pins were positioned on some of the higher spots around the greens to avoid the puddles.
Dixon fitted in the event in a brief return to this country after enjoying warm weather practice in Spain over the weekend in preparation for his Tour School challenge, which begins on Sunday. He made three birdies at the sixth, 10th and 14th but dropped shots at the third, fourth and 12th.
Hibbitt was two-under-par as he stood on the 15th tee but he dropped three shots on the closing four holes. But he did pick up the maximum Total Triumph Order of Merit points as Dixon is not eligible.
Roy Holland (Long Ashton) claimed third a real mixed bag that included four birdies and six bogeys but he still recorded his best result of the winter season. Nick Ellis (Naunton Downs) and Bristol Golf Centre’s Giuseppe Licata, who increased his early season lead in the OOM points table, shared fourth on 74.
