David Dixon posted a five-under-par round of 65 at Worlebury to finish a shot clear of Ed Goodwin and win the final Triumph Total Order of Merit event of the year.
Dixon, who was playing in his first Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA event since narrowly missing out on regaining his European Tour card, began inauspiciously by dropping a shot at the short second.
But that proved to be sole blip in the Enmore Park pro’s round. He atoned immediately with a birdie at the par-four third and followed suit at seven, eight, 11, 13 and 15.
Cirencester’s Goodwin also birdied the third en route to a four-under-par round of 66. Four more birdies followed – at the eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th – but a dropped shot at the 17th effectively wrecked his chances of catching Dixon.
Meanwhile, Total Triumph Order of Merit leader Lee Corfield, who is now attached to the Isle of Wedmore club, was a shot further back in third place.
He finished a shot clear of the only other player in the 26-strong field to break par, Cirencester’s Mark Plummer, and now leads the Order of Merit by 42 points.
