Double For Bebb At Cotswold Edge

Welsh national champion Sion Bebb completed a double in the heat at Cotswold Edge where bogeys outnumbered birdies on a tough day for scoring.

The Morlais Castle club pro and former European Tour player claimed first place in both the individual and team events but was later joined at the top by fellow Welshman Toby Hunt (St Mellons) who is enjoying another successful season.

Bebb was first to post three-under-par  68 on the tricky Gloucestershire course with four of his seven birdies coming in the opening seven holes and the final three over the final four-hole stretch. Like the rest of the field he dropped shots with four bogeys.

Hunt was four-under after seven holes but dropped three shots in a row. A double bogey at the 15th followed birdies at the 12th and 13th before he picked up further shots at the 16th and 18th.

George Ryall (Worlebury) made four birdies in finishing third one shot adrift while Mark Searle (High Post) and Barry Forster (North Wilts) shared fourth on 69, each carding three birdies.

Kenny Hibbitt, the former Wolves, Coventry City and Bristol Rovers footballer and Cardiff City manager, was a member of Bebb’s winning team on 19-under-par 123. The long-standing member of the home club, father of club pro Rod Hibbitt, was joined by Alan McCann and Lee Mason in the Axion Associates team.

Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) and amateurs Derrick Dedman, David Spencer and Alan Taylor were five shots behind.

Hannah Bowen (Swansea Bay) made three vital  birdies to help the ladies team of Megan Mills, Mel Lee and Caroline Stokes into third place on 130. They beat Searle’s team of Lin Cocking, Darren Chapman and Lee Kelford on countback.
