A crisp Thorndon Park staged the final event of the 2014 campaign as it managed to beat the first frost of winter.

Scoring was very good considering the course was playing its full 6,500 yards with very little run. Thorndon Park’s John Judd shared the honours with Brett Taylor (above) from Chelmsford.

Both shot two-under-par 69 which was enough to win by two shots from Chase Davis of Stapleford Abbotts and Mark Talbott from Thorpe Hall who both came in with a very creditable 71.

In the Pro-Am event Mark Stokes from Rayleigh Driving Range led his team to victory with a score of 11-under-par beating the team from Chelmsford Golf Club led by Andy Pestell, which included amateur James Allen who has qualified to play in the Dubai Desert Classic next February.

At the prize giving a special award was made to 91-year-old Joe Crumpen, who has retired this year after acting as official starter for the PGA in Essex for many years.
