Adam Durie is preparing to partner John Eyre for a shot at the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship regional qualifier at Woodsome Hall.

The home duo will team up for the BMW-supported event to be held at the Huddersfield venue on Thursday 1 August, where they will be aiming to reach the £28,750 final which will be held at Forest Pines Hotel in Lincolnshire on October 2-4.

PGA Assistant Durie is in the final year of his training and he was honoured to be asked to play alongside Woodsome Hall Head PGA Professional Eyre, who is also his coach, in this year’s event.

The former chef is now confident that he can create a career in golf and leave his days of preparing food behind him.

He explained: “I got made redundant from my job working as a chef in Huddersfield, but in a way I’m glad that happened as I could concentrate on golf.

“I was coached by John and then an assistants’ job came up which I got - and now I’m about to finish my final exams which means I can have a career in the sport.

“But I’ve been playing at Woodsome Hall since I was a junior around the age of 14 so I’ve played it many times and I hope I’ll be able to use a bit of local knowledge in this event.”

Durie failed in his first attempt to reach the Forest Pines final last year but now hopes Eyre’s experience will help him through.

Durie explained: “For the last couple of years John’s played in the event with David Astin, but this year he asked me and I was really pleased about that.

“This is such a competitive event that always seems to attract quality players and I don’t think this year’s any different.

“And with the way the weather has been, the greens will be really quick and the course is immaculate.”

Other teams taking part at Woodsome Hall include David Shacklady (Mossock Hall) and Gary Donninson (Heyrose); Gary Brown (Ganton) and John Wells (Snainton); Simon Edwards (Windermere) and Paul Carman (Woodsome Hall);   Andrew Herridge and Joshua Hirst (Leeds Golf Centre); Nigel Parkinson (Renishaw Park) and Scott Barber (Waterton Park); and Mark Ridley (South Moor) and David Clarke (Morpeth).
