Two eagles in his first seven holes helped Ross Langdon extend his decisive lead in the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Total Triumph Order of Merit with just two events remaining.

The big hitting Brickhampton Court player carded six-under-par 64 at the Isle of Wedmore to lead Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) by three shots in glorious Somerset Spring sunshine. He now enjoys a 40 point advantage over Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury) who could only card a 72 for a tie for fifth place.

Langdon opened up with an eagle three at the first hole followed by his first birdie at the sixth. He reduced the drivable par four seventh to just two and another two at the ninth took him out in 28 and six under the card.

His back nine was a more subdued affair with seven pars, a bogey at the 10th and birdie at the 16th. Not surprisingly he claimed the birdie sweep as well.

Mansell made his score on the homeward run. Bogeys at the 11th and 12th were followed by a four-birdie blitz from the 13th.

His mentor George Ryall (Players) was a further shot behind. He also made four birdies after the turn but a slow start prevented him troubling the top two although he did take the Over 40’s sweep.

Gloucester and Somerset PGA captain Robin Goodey (Chipping Sodbury) was fourth on level par 70, one better than Licata and amateur Spencer Vickery.
