Ian Ellis (Great Yarmouth and Caister) gave himself an early-season boost with success in the West Middlesex Pro-Am.
The Norfolk golfer (above) crafted a one-under-par 68 to win by two from Noel Quinn (Whipsnade), while Mark Stokes (Rayleigh Golf Range), Stuart Brown (Orton Meadows) and Mark Davis (Thorndon Park) were all a further shot back in a tie for third.
Ellis’ card included three birdies as he overcame damp and overcast conditions. The victory was just the tonic he needed with another appearance at Wentworth in next month’s BMW PGA Championship drawing ever nearer.
Ellis said: “Winning the first pro-am of the season is a great way to start the season. Although I've come away from the day with a decent score, it has shown me I've got a lot of work to put in the next three weeks – which I will be doing.
"I didn't strike the ball that well, I've been struggling with rhythm recently, but seem to have the knack of getting the ball round when not I'm not on my game.
“I can't wait to get to Wentworth and enjoy the whole experience again. If I can find my rhythm that week it's going to be a wonderful four days.”
Neil Mitchell (Bury Golf Range) led home the successful team at West Middlesex.
