Anton Elsborg hopes the revival of Chart Hills Golf Club is reflected in the Staysure Trophy South qualifying event.
Elsborg is teaming up with PGA professional Nicholas Olson who is in his second spell with the Kent club after rejoining a few months ago.
They will be teeing of at Kings Hill Golf Club at West Malling on July 16.
And both will be aiming to reach the grand final which is being held from July 31 to August 1 at the London Golf Club near Sevenoaks, Kent.
The pro-am competition, which features senior amateur players and is sponsored by Staysure, the insurance specialists for over 50s, has been launched by the PGA this year and carries a £30,000 prize fund.
Elsborg, a retired engineering company director, plays off a handicap of nine.
And he says Chart Hills has seen vast improvement over the past two years as a result of new investment at the Biddenden club which boasts a Sir Nick Faldo designed course.
“The improvements have been obvious, it started with a redesign of a bunker which used as much sand as for most entire golf courses,” said the 67-year-old.
“That’s improved drainage at the course and once you get that it one area, it quickly spreads throughout the club.”
Ashford-based Elsborg has been playing golf for over 40 years but has become a member at Chart Hills only recently.
And he welcomes the introduction of a competition that gives senior club members the chance to play with PGA professionals.
“I know our own professional Nicholas was very keen for our members to get involved and I was thrilled to win the competition to get that chance,” added Elsborg.
“The senior members often make up a large section of clubs and for them to get the chance to play in an event such as this is tremendous. I would think it’s going to be even more popular next year.”
Other teams from the South taking part at Kings Hill Golf Club include: Martin Daniels/Kevan Dulig (Gillingham Golf Club); Lee Scarbrow/Alistair Collin (John O'Gaunt Golf Club);Tim Spence/Steve Bish (The Golf College); Martin Foreman/Wayne Sparks (Mid Kent); Richard Silman/Frederick Potter (Tenterden Golf Club); Guy Shoesmith/Darren Warrington (West Hill); and Wraith Grant/Neil Marshall (Woodcote Park).
