Epsom Golf Club’s David Bright admits he will be treading new ground when he plays in the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship next week.
Bright (pictured on right) and club mate Alex Vezey (left) will face a 400-mile round trip for the £28,750 BMW-supported final, which will be held at Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Club in Lincolnshire on October 2-4.
But Bright is confident the journey will not hinder them - he is used to travelling after regularly returning to the UK from Spain to take his PGA exams before moving to Surrey.
“Neither of us have played Forest Pines before, it’s a bit of a hike from where we are in Epsom,” said Bright. “But I’m used to travelling; I was attached to the Miraflores Golf Academy in Spain while I was doing my PGA training so I had to fly back to England for exams as well as any tournaments I wanted to play in.
“I’m qualified now and I’m aiming to eventually take up a head professional role somewhere one day.
“That’s the beauty of the PGA qualification; you can take any number of different routes within the game.”
The pair finished second in their qualifying event which was held at Epsom.
Bright added: “Myself and Alex felt we should be qualifying for the final as we were on our home course.
“We were first out and leading right up until the fourth from the last group to come in.
“We made nine-under-par so we were pleased with that and happy to get to the final.
“Alex is probably more of the player out of the two of us, but we’ll travel up to Forest Pines the day before and have a practice round and hopefully do as well as we did in the qualifying event.”
Other teams from the South taking part at Forest Pines are PGA Cup team member Benn Barham and Mark Trow (Kings Hill); Michael Lowe (Leatherhead) and Matthew Woods (Donnington Grove); Ben Clayton (Hindhead) and Clifford Gough (West Hill); Jack Stevenson (Royal Wimbledon) and Michael Bolt (Dudsbury); and Andrew Cloke (Bishopwood) and Kevin Saunders (Brokenhurst Manor).
