Two PGA Professionals going the extra mile are Tandridge’s Chris Evans and Royal Mid Surrey’s Matt Paget, writes Charles de Haan.
Thanks to their involvement with the Sunshine Pro-Am and the PGA Christmas Fayre Pro-Am, they’ve raised more than £79,000 for the Demelza Hospice Care for Children in the past 11 years.
It all started with the PGA Kent Christmas Fayre Pro-Am at Royal Cinque Ports, Deal. as Evans explained: “Demelza Hospice Care for Children has always been a popular charity amongst PGA Professionals in Kent.
“Matt and I had spent 10 years in Kent and saw the work done by Demelza, so we decided we’d do all we could for them.”
In January 2018, the popular Sunshine Pro-Am itself raised a further £9,000 for Demelza, which annually provides care to 650 children with terminal conditions and their families at the charity’s hospices in Kent and south east London and through its hospice at home service in East Sussex.
The dynamic duo’s target is £100,000, but as Evans explains: “I believe we can achieve and surpass this in two years’ time. Besides the Sunshine Pro-Am, we’re getting amazing support from Tandridge and Royal Mid Surrey, and some of the more prestigious golf clubs in Kent.”
Debra Elliott, community fundraiser, at Demelza said: “As a charity, we’re almost dependent on the generosity of our supporters to provide the funds that keep us going. The money that Chris, Matt and all of their supporters have raised is incredible and we are deeply grateful for their continuing support.”
