PGA professional Giles Evans is hoping to maintain his flying form when he goes in search of DP World Tour playing rights at Mottram Hall.
The Thetford Golf Club-attached golfer has recently enjoyed that winning feeling at two development tour tournaments. Now the 25-year-old has his sights set on a first-stage qualifier for the DP World Tour.
Evans will tee up from October 4-7 at Mottram Hall near Macclesfield, aiming to earn a spot in Spain the following month when second stage and final qualifying are scheduled.
Evans, who qualified as a PGA professional in 2019, said: “Due to Covid this will be my first time ever competing in Q-School. I'm really excited to give it a go. I understand that it is a completely different experience and I feel like having the right mind-set is key.
“I'm just going to go and enjoy the whole process and see what happens at the end of the week. Obviously it is a chance to fast-track your dreams but I just want to relish the opportunity and try my best – that's all I can do.”
The next few weeks will be very busy for Evans, who is also in action in a Challenge Tour event – the English Trophy – at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire on October 13-16.
Evans said: “I am still right at the start of where I want to get to in my career but for me, I just concentrate tournament by tournament and let the rest take care of itself.
“My sponsors, coaches, family and of course my caddie Owen Mills – an assistant PGA professional at Thetford Golf Club – are all vital to any success that I have.
“The amount of support I have around me plays such a massive part in all of it; without them I wouldn't have the opportunity that I do.”
