Lee Fickling hit a spell of sparkling form in the South Herts Golf Club Pro-Am as he carded a round of six-under-par 66 - including eight birdies.
Fickling, Director of Golf at Bush Hill Park and chairman of The PGA in England (East), said: “It was one of those rounds. I was a bit stunned by it. I don’t have the time to play in many events these days but I have entered a few recently to help me prepare for the qualifier for the Senior Open Championship. I have chosen Southport and Ainsdale for my qualifier.”
Five players were joint second at four-under-par. They were Paul Hetherington (Great Hadham Golf and Country Club) with seven birdies, Andrew George (Ely City) with six birdies, Ian Ellis (Costessey Park) with five birdies, Daniel Field (East Herts) who had three birdies and an eagle and James Taverner (Brocket Hall) who had four birdies and an eagle.
Four players ended with three-under-par. Mark Hooper (Rayleigh Golf Range) was the only competitor not to drop a shot. The others on three-under were Jason Levermore (Clacton), James Ruebotham (Welwyn Garden City) and Daniel Coughlan (Wyke Green).
Taverner brought in the winning team of Bob Heath, Andy Ptohibes and Andy Pawlowki with 22-under-par 122. Runners-up were Ruebotham, Peter Evans, Ian Blackman and Wayne Hough with 125. Third team prize went to Ellis, Malcolm White, Barry Walsh and Jes de Jonk with 128.
