A quartet of winter series stalwarts couldn't be separated in the Little Aston pro-am, as the spring was ushered in with a birdie blitz at the highly-regarded championship layout.
Paul Streeter, the Order of Merit leader from Lincoln Golf Centre again found form, firing a 68 with six birdies and an eagle at the 12th, his double bogey at the 17th plus two other dropped shots however were to prove costly.
Simon Lilly (Wellingborough) managed six birdies too, just two bogies saw him join Streeter at the top of the leaderboard. They were joined by two regular visitors from outside the region, Adrian Ambler from Low Laithes Golf Club in Yorkshire who won last month’s event at Marriott Forest of Arden found his touch again, four birdies on the trot saw him equal the day’s best.
Simon Edwards (Windermere) was to complete the quartet, his eagle at the third coming before four further birdies to make his long trip from the lakes worthwhile.
The ever-consistent Streeter, who stretched his lead at the top of the winter series standings, was also to emerge triumphant in the team event as he guided his golfers to a three shot win over the field of 26 teams in total.
