Neil Fenwick (Dunbar) and Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) fired six-under-par 65s at the Tomatin Single Malt 54 Hole Pro-AM.
The three-day event is taking place at Nairn (par 71), Royal Dornoch (par 70) and Castle Stuart (par 72).
Fenwick and Hutcheon both had their first rounds at Nairn but as the players switch courses every day, it will be Wednesday before the overall scoreboard gives the true picture of who is winning the 54-hole event.
Probably for the first time in his golfing life, Hutcheon had three eagle threes on his card, at Nairn's seventh, 10th and 18th. Two bogeys cancelled out his two birdies so the eagles gave him his six-under-par flying start to the tournament.
Fenwick also had an eagle three at the 15th and a bag of seven birdies.
Three bogeys pulled him down to "only" six under par.
Also at Nairn, Welshman Simon Edwards was well in the mix with a 66. He was six under par for his last 12 holes.
Jason McCreadie had eight birdies, one double bogey and three bogeys in his 69 at Castle Stuart (par 72).
He is one of five players sharing the lead at this venue.
Greg McBain (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) had the best score at Royal Dornoch - a four-under-par 66.
