Graham Cox captured the PGA in Cheshire & North Wales Matchplay Championship when he edged home 2&1 against Styal-based John Watson at Wilmslow.

And he reached the final after eclipsing his Davenport boss Tony Stevens by a comprehensive 5&3 in the semis.

At the same stage, Watson denied Royal Liverpool's Mike Jones a fourth title when he also prevailed by one hole.

Meanwhile, in the Inter-County matchplay finals at the same venue James Freeman, from Owston Hall, beat Oliver Whiteley, of Bramall Park, on the home green.

Whiteley sat out the semis after being handed a walkover as Andy Terry, from Whitefield, missed the tee time, while Freeman despatched beat Middlesbrough's Andrew Richardson 1 up.
