However, it’s not just financial support that Finch has provided. In the second event of the series, Finch introduced a crowd-pleaser initiative called “Pies for Birdies.” This initiative was as simple as it was brilliant: any golfer who scored a birdie was rewarded with a freshly baked pie from beloved local bakery - Clayton Park Bakery in Accrington. Not only did this add an extra layer of excitement and motivation for players to up their game, but it also infused the event with a sense of fun and camaraderie that everyone could enjoy. Each birdie had the potential to turn into a delicious reward, keeping players thoroughly engaged.
Finch said: “I actually think this might be the best thing we've ever done. On my podcast [The Rough Cut Podcast], I was chatting about any local companies that want to sponsor an event, not paid for, we just wanted to do something a little bit different. And a local bakery got in touch, Clayton Park, and they were offering 100 butter pies. So we came up with an idea that for every birdie you got, you got a pie. So the players on the course, you can see, when the birdies were going in, they weren't putting for birdies, they were putting for pies. I was a bit gutted actually because I was the last out and by the time I got in, they'd all gone!”
