First win for Langdon at Tall Pines

Brickhampton Court’s Ross Langdon won his first Gloucester and Somerset PGA medal of the season with an impressive six-under-par 64 at Tall Pines, boosted by an eagle on the second hole.

He holed his second shot on the uphill par four hole and then added six birdies to beat Ian Brown (Newent) by three shots.

After two successive cancellations at Filton and Lansdown because of the weather this time a misty start was followed by a pleasant spring day with light winds at the Somerset course which borders Bristol International Airport.

Langdon, the reigning Total Triumph Order of Merit champion, has made fewer appearances this winter. He reached the turn in 31 but dropped a shot at the tricky 10th before a run of four birdies in five holes set him towards the winning post.

His playing partner Brown matched this birdie haul but a bogey at the sixth and a double bogey at the 10th proved his downfall.

Clevedon assistant Ashley Mansell leapfrogged Ed Goodwin (Cirencester) and Russ Berry (Broadway) to take second spot in Total Triumph Order of Merit behind long-time leader Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury).

Mansell took third place with 68, once again with a customary chip-in. He shared with the consistent bogey-free George Ryall (Burnham & Berrow) who made birdies the 10th and 11th.

Home assistant Luke Collins used his course knowledge to good effect to break par in his first appearance for some time to claim fifth while Berry and Enmore Park amateur Matt Kippen shared sixth on par.
