South Cerney assistant Greg Davies won his first event as a professional in the Dorset and Wiltshire PGA medal in the Race to Bowood winter series at Sherborne.

The big-hitting  22-year-old left hander returned four-under-par 68, carding two halves of 34 with birdies at the fourth, sixth, 12th, 14th and 17th. His only bogey came at the 13th when he made a bad tee shot.

He said: “I’m feeling really good about my game at the moment and I would love to do well in the final at Bowood as I know and like the course.”

He won the club championships at both Ogbourne Downs  and The Wiltshire in 2012 and turned professional last year.

Henry Pallas (Upavon), a consistent player in both county and regional tournaments, followed two shots behind.  He dropped his only shots at the start of each nine but added birdies at the third, fourth, sixth and 13th.

Gregg Hood (Bowood) made it a Wiltshire triumph by finishing third as the only other player to better par. Third place was a career-best high finish.

Another Wiltshireman Mark Sandry (Swindon Premier Golf Academy) shared fourth with Dorset’s Paul Jones (Ashley Wood) and James Wilson (Ferndown).
