Dudsbury touring professional Lee Thompson won his first Race to Remedy heat this season thanks to a one-under par 70 in difficult conditions at Salisbury and South Wilts.

After two second place finishes in his previous combined Wiltshire and Dorset PGA outings, Thompson owed his success to a strong finish.

Having slipped to two-over par, he became the only player to break par by rallying with a hat-trick of birdies from the 14th.

Young Knighton Heath assistant Jack Baker claimed second place on 72 for a career-best finish following an impressive round which included four birdies.

The experienced Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) was one of five players sharing third on 73.

Jacob Hunter (Broadstone) and James Wiltshire (Broome Manor) also claimed their highest places. Ashley Wood's Paul Jones and Mike Reeves (Kingsdown) joined them.
