Five in Rayleigh tie

All four of the PGA in England (East) qualifiers for the Titleist PGA Play-Offs were involved in a five-way share of The Rayleigh Club Pro-Am.

Just 24 hours after Jason Levermore, Ian Ellis, Darren Charlton and Mark Hooper filled the first four spots in the regional Order of Merit at the Rayleigh Club Championship, the quartet – along with Chris Cutchie – shot three-under-par rounds of 70 to all finish at the top.

Ellis, who won the year’s final Order of Merit event, could also have won the pro-am at The Rayleigh Club, having been four-under with two holes left. But a bogey at the 17th set him back.

In contrast, Levermore birdied the closing two holes to get to minus-three. Charlton, who started at the 10th, also picked up a stroke at his closing hole, as did Cutchie.

Hooper conjured up a great back nine at his home club. He played it in four-under-par to finish with his 70 and a share of the spoils.
