Richard Sadler (Killiow) threatened to run away with the Devon and Cornwall PGA dual-county pro-am at Falmouth after a best-of-the-day opening nine of three-under 32 but he ended on level-par.

So did Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge) who was another strong contender despite dropping three early shots. An eagle three at the ninth followed by four birdies rescued his round until he took seven at the par-five 17th.

So five players shared top place as Scott Richards (Truro), Chris Gill (Newquay) and James Ruth (China Fleet), who made an eagle at the 270-yard 12th, also carded 71.

Grant Slater (Trevose) claimed sixth on 72 while regular WPGA player Katie Rule, who is attached to the host club, was a shot behind in seventh. She was third in the WPGA medal at Three Rivers the previous day.

Ruth, who shot eight-under-par to win the Cornwall Alliance meeting over the same course earlier this year, won the team prize on 131, two better than Matt Curnoe (West Cornwall).
