#FJThanksaPGAPro 2021 winners reflect on personal victory

12/12/2022

Reflecting on a busy 2022, two PGA Members have highlighted a personal victory courtesy of a recognition campaign launched by FootJoy, the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf, in partnership with The PGA.

#FJThanksaPGAPro was launched to highlight the important role PGA members play and thank those who have gone above and beyond serving their clubs, members and communities.

The campaign empowered golfers from across the country to nominate PGA Professionals on social media by sharing the good work that went beyond the usual call of duty with a panel from The PGA & FJ selecting the two most deserving for the top prize.

Each receiving numerous nominations Jorden Ferrie and Hannah Crump were announced as the inaugural #FJThanksaPGAPro winners.

Ferrie, who is based at Golspie Golf Club, in the Highlands of Scotland, received high praise for her work with juniors in her region. Meanwhile, nominations for Crump, a teaching professional now at Robin Hood Golf Club, Solihull, highlighted how she made learning fun and inspired the women she coaches to learn to love the game of golf.

When asked about the work she’d done to be nominated, Ferrie said: “I grew their [Golspie Golf Club’s] junior section from five to 20 members. Elsewhere at Royal Dornoch I was responsible for establishing an under-7s section from being initially non-existent to having over 30 juniors in that category!”

Asked what advice she’d pass on to other PGA members looking to make a similar impact, Ferrie added: “I start them as young as four. A lot of pros won’t take them on until the age of eight, but I like to have an open mind when it comes to the younger ones to best help grow the game.”

Crump, who had been based at Stonebridge Golf Club, Coventry, explained: “I was very much a female golfing specialist and really put in a lot of time and effort into group coaching for women. From there, I also did a lot of work with diverse groups throughout the golfing world as well. This started with doing some ground-breaking work with the LWGA which led to working with the LGBTQ Golf Society which was fantastic and more recently the Afro Caribbean Society. So, all these groups were approaching me and it was fantastic to see. My view to coaching and participation is that every female is welcome and that was the vision and no matter what background you have we’re all women and just need to play more golf!”

Crump continued: “Winning last year was really quite special as it came from the players themselves which meant quite a lot to me. As FootJoy is such a big brand, having that support and network there really makes a difference with them highlighting my work as I think other big brands need to do more to support PGA Professionals like myself as it is only really the work that we do that grows a more diverse game.”

Both The PGA and FJ are once again seeking nominations for an all-new #FJThanksaPGAPro campaign which has been launched on their social media channels.

With promotion for the campaign expected to run until January 6th, golfers from around the country can vote for PGA Members by nominating them through a dedicated webpage by CLICKING HERE.
