It was a case of fifth time lucky for Tim Ford when he won the Sue Wright Trophy at Helsby.
That was the number of visits the 26-year-old Liverpool Driving Range professional made to the par three final hole in extra-time to beat his Dewsbury and District adversary James Ward.
Ford, who was laid up for a month in March with a knee injury incurred during the EuroPro Tour final, settled the issue when his rival bogeyed.
“I lost count of the number of times I’ve finished second this season,” Ford revealed but he’s hoping to sharpen up his game by competing on the EuroPro Tour.
He’s being coached at Woolton Golf Club by Dave Thompson whose dad Alan is professional at Heswall and mentor to Tommy Fleetwood among many other famous players.
Shot of the day was a hole-in-one at the eighth by Davenport’s Jamie Howarth which lifted him into third spot.
