Four Way Dead Heat At Mid Kent

Four PGA Professionals tied for victory in the Mid Kent Pro-Am to share the winner’s title for 2018.

With each arriving at their cards of two-under-par in different ways, Poult Wood’s Craig Sutherland, Wildernesse’s Phil Beever, Micros Golf’s Steven Green and Singing Hills’ Chris Croucher all succeeded in negotiating Mid Kent’s challenging set up in 68 shots

Sutherland and Beever were the most consistent, dropping just the one shot while Croucher dropped two. By comparison Green’s round started very promisingly after two birdies and then an eagle at the fifth which set him up to reach the turn on four-under, but bogeys at the 12th and 16th left him tied for pole position on two-under-par.

Despite ideal weather, Mid Kent’s narrow fairways kept the scoring tight and only six other competitors finished under par, one stroke behind with 69s: Louis Savill (Tandridge), Jordan Godwin (Barnehurst), Nico Els (Professional Golf Tuition Breaks), James Ford (Robert Rock Academy), Guy Woodman (ProAgenda.com) and Michael Lowe (Leatherhead).

Of those, Lowe made seven birdies, Godwin made six, Savill made five, Els made four, Woodman three and Ford one eagle and two birdies, all of which underlined the difficulties of negotiating the tight Mid Kent set up.

In the team event James Ablett provided the inspiration for his amateurs to reach 18-under-par and win by three. Everyone agreed that the Mid Kent Pro-Am really is one of best on the calendar, and the members and some of the PGA Professionals celebrated their great day long into the night.
