Four players posted two-under par aggregate results to share victory in the Highland Links 54-hole pro-am and earn £5,875 each.
With a ‘no play-off’ clause written into the rules, Jonathan Grogan, Neil Fenwick, Gareth Wright and overnight leader Neil Henderson all shared the limelight following the conclusion of the three-day event staged at Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart and Nairn.
Henderson held a two-shot lead heading into Wednesday’s climax but could only manage to close on four-over par 74 at Royal Dornoch for a total of 211.
This opened the door for Gareth Wright (West Linton) who signed off with a par 72 at Castle Stuart, while Neil Fenwick (Dunbar) finished on one-over 72 at Nairn and Germany-based Jonathan Grogan (Wumme) scored a two-under par 69 at Royal Dornoch to claim a share of the spoils at the richest pro-am tournament on the PGA Scottish Region schedule.
Grogan, Fenwick, Wright and Henderson were all in the clubhouse wondering if they would be relegated to joint second place by first-round leader Paul O'Hara (North Lanarkshire Leisure).
But, needing a one-over par 71 at Royal Dornoch for what would have been a winning aggregate of three-under 210, O’Hara could not seize the chance to chalk up his 11th victory of the season.
Instead, uncharacteristically, O’Hara slumped to a seven-over par 77 and finished joint seventh on 216 alongside his older brother, Stephen, who closed with a 68.
James Ross (Royal Burgess) steered the Glasgow Whisky 2 team of Rory Taylor (handicap 16), Stephen McGoldrick (7) and John Mitchell (12) to victory in the pro-am competition with 256 Stableford points.
