Kieron Fowler hopes he can bring an old head on young shoulders to the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship Final.

Lyme Regis Golf Club second year Assistant Professional Fowler teamed up with new playing partner Henry Pallas of Upavon Golf Club for the qualifying event held at Exeter Golf & Country Club.

They carded an eight under par round of 61 to win by one shot ahead of the pairing of Alex Munro (Bristol Golf Centre) and James Keitch (Wells Golf Club).

It will be Fowler’s second successive final after clinching a top 25 finish with Aaron Crabbe (Cricket St Thomas Golf Club) at last year’s Carden Park showpiece.

But Crabbe’s early season wrist injury worries meant he could not be certain of playing in this year’s qualifier so Fowler partnered newly-qualified PGA Professional Pallas instead.

They will be among the event’s 10 qualifiers heading for the £33,000, BMW supported, Fourball Championship final which takes place at Whittlebury Park in Northamptonshire between August 16-18.

But it will be a busy fortnight for 22-year-old Fowler who has also reached the PGA Assistants’ Championship Final again after a sixth placed finish last year.

“I’d played a lot before taking the PGA course, internationally as an amateur, I’d been at university in South Carolina and with Hampshire at a decent level, sometimes I go out there with an old head on young shoulders,” he said.

Fowler feels as though he and Pallas can be among the pacesetters at this year’s final.

‘Henry have always got on well and he approached me to see if I was looking for a playing partner for this event and it was good to find the right ingredient,” he said.

“He made a very quick start and we were four under par after five holes, where I struggled he came in and vice versa.

“We’re not familiar with the venue for the final this year, we had no idea where it was when we were asked about it. But we’ll get up there early to practice as we think we have a really good chance as myself and Henry meshed really well together, as golfers, we have a really good time out on the course and that makes things easier.

“August will be a busy month with the PGA Assistants’ Final, but it means I’m gaining more experience and that’s what we do, we work hard to get into these positions.”
