Adam Frayne crowned a busy few weeks with victory in the English PGA Championship West qualifier at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club.
Frayne was only named as Yelverton Golf Club’s new head professional a month ago.
And he followed that up by finishing joint top of the leaderboard to secure his place in the final of a competition which is back on the calendar after an eight year absence.
Frayne carded a five under par round of 67 at the Gloucestershire venue and his score was matched by Greg Davies of Cirencester’s South Cerney Golf Course.
They finished two shots ahead of Ladies European Tour player Jessica Bradley of Tiverton Golf Club.
The trio will join 13 other qualifiers at Saunton Golf Club in Devon for the £30,000 grand final which is being held between June 27-29.
Frayne was delighted with the victory but admitted it has been a busy few weeks.
“I took over as head pro at Yelverton at the beginning of April, so it’s been a really busy time for me,” he said.
“There’s lots going on and I always wanted to do this sort of thing. But I didn’t expect it to happen as quickly as this.
“It’s a big challenge but a good challenge.”
Frayne is looking forward to playing Saunton as it is a course he often played at in his amateur days.
“I only entered the tournament at the last minute, put it in the diary, and now I’m in the final which is good as I like it around Saunton,” he said.
“I managed to win a west region event there a couple of years ago and I grew up around this way so I used to play Saunton as an amateur.
“We used to play our county golf in the South West there too, so I know it well.”
