Trevose Golf Club owner Nick Gammon admitted he shot his best round of the year to qualify for the Lombard Trophy regional final at Bovey Castle.
Gammon, 43, came through the club qualifier at his home club Trevose after shooting a course record equalling six-under-par round which blitzed anything he has managed in any other competitions so far this year.
The talented golfer, who plays off a handicap of +1, will partner PGA Professional Gary Lenaghan, above, in the regional event on June 23.
There they will be hoping to secure a place in the £41,500 grand final. The Lombard sponsored tournament, supported by Coca-Cola, is being held at the beautiful Pestana Golf Resort in Vila Sol, Portugal, from September 22-23.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” enthused Gammon. “It should be a really good event and I’m confident that we can do well.
“Of course it would be really nice to get through – it would be great to have the opportunity to play out in Portugal.
“I had my best round of the year in the club qualifier so more of the same would be nice.
“We’ve got a charity day at the club the day before the event so that will be a nice little warm up for myself and Gary.”
Once there Gammon, who hit his first ball aged five, will be able to rely on the support of the Trevose members who are so keen for him to succeed at the Devon venue.
“There was a little bit of backchat when everyone realised I had qualified,” he joked.
“But everyone has been really supportive. They all want to see Trevose represented at the final and it would be nice to make that happen.
“To be honest, after the week that we’ve just had, I’ll just be happy as long as we get some nice weather!”
Other players competing in the regional final at Bovey Castle include: Nick Rodgers and Reg Mitchell (a) (Came Down), Daniel Wood and Nathan Carter (a) (Ivyleaf), Graham Laing and Brad Dawson (a) (North Wilts), Alistair Welsher and Steven Hill (a) (Tiverton) and Gary Marks and Joseph Joyce (a) (Worlebury).
