Chris Gane (LeftHandedGolf at Silvermere) and Scott Stevens (The Ridge) added another winning score to their records, shooting three-under-par 69s to tie the Farnham Charity Pro-Am.

Their performances earned them each £1,037, one of the bigger Pro-Am cheques of the season so far, but the way they made their scores could not have been more different.

Stevens made a terrific start with four birdies through the first five holes, and then one more at the 11th to reach five-under-par. But then things started to come apart with bogeys at the 13th, 15th and 17th undoing all the good work. Undeterred, Stevens dug deep to make one more birdie at the final hole to secure pole position.

Gane’s front nine saw him turn at one-under-par, and although playing nicely enough nothing seemed to drop until the last hole where a 12 foot eagle putt went in for his 69.

Gane commented: “I thought I’d put my worst swing of the round on my second, but somehow it made its way onto the green and left me with one last opportunity to make a decent score!”

In the runner up position were the new CK Group PGA Kent Open champion, Adam Wootton (Oxford Golf Centre), and Lea Cooper (Tilgate Forest), who both made birdies at the last hole to card two-under-par 70s, taking home cheques of £675 each.

Gane was delighted to add another victory at Farnham. He said: “I’ve played in this event three times out of the last four years, and it’s my third time on the winner’s rostrum, so it seems that Farnham and I get on quite well!

“This is one of the top events of the season for all of us, with Alasdair Hay (Farnham’s Secretary/Manager and PGA Professional) and his team always going that extra mile to lay on a top day. The prizes are terrific, the course is always in great condition, and as a result it’s a very popular event on the schedule. I’ll definitely be back for more of the same next year!”
