Chris Gane (LeftHandedGolf@Silvermere) became the new champion of Surrey with a solid three-under-par 69 around Bletchingley to win The PGA in Surrey Championship.

The most prestigious event in The PGA in Surrey calendar, carrying a near £5,000 prize fund, was made possible by the hard work put in by all those involved in the fund-raising event, The PGA in Surrey Dinner & Spring Pro-Am, and also County sponsors Brand Fusion through their Sun Mountain and SuperStroke Grip brands.

Gane could largely thank five good putts on the last six holes in helping him secure the £1,000 first prize. His 69 around Bletchingley was comfortably ahead of his rivals, local man Ben Daniels and Ben St. John (Woodcote Park) who both shot one-under-par 71s for their cheques of £687.50 each.

Starting at the 10th, Gane made an early birdie at the 11th, gave it back at the 13th and repaired the damage at the 15th with another birdie. Pars followed until the sixth where Gane produced an eagle that took him to three-under-par, and pars home saw him stay clear at the top of the leaderboard.

Intended to be a 36-hole tournament, some terrible weather delayed the morning enough to put pay to the afternoon round, but Gane put a shine on the event when he said, “It’s all down to Guy Shoesmith’s hard work that we’re playing this tournament again. It’s always nice to notch up another win, and it’s been a good season for me, no question.”
