Chris Gane (LeftHandedGolf@Silvermere) won the Wildwood Invitational supported by Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, shooting a flawless six-under-par 66 to walk away with the £900 top prize.

With three birdies on each nine, Gane finished two shots in front of Richard Wallis (North Foreland) and Chris Rodgers (Richings Park) who both shot 68s for their cheques. Wallis produced the most birdies of the three players, seven in total, but slips at three holes took some of the gloss off his round.

Gane was highly impressed with Wildwood’s condition, saying that: “It was in great condition and well presented, with nice firm greens. I made one slip but managed to make par after a good up and down, and otherwise it was regulation golf. The par fives were easier to reach as a result of the conditions, and the feedback was that everyone really enjoyed Wildwood again.”

Gane’s performance in the last four weeks has been particularly impressive, with five wins in as many weeks, as he commented: “I’ve been playing well all year, but in the last few weeks one or two more putts have dropped. It’s those one or two shots that make all the difference, and as a result I’ve been making the speeches instead of listening to them!”

With the last event of the Virgin Atlantic PGA South Order of Merit to be settled at the season ending PGA Farnham Finale, everyone’s watching to see who will take the top three places and fly off to Turkey for the PGA Play Offs in November.

Current leader James Ablett (Lee-on-the-Solent) and Benn Barham (PGolfCoaching@Pedham) are vying for top spot, while Gane is a distant third, closely followed by Scott Stevens (Staplehurst), Adam Wootton (Oxford Golf Centre) and Guy Woodman (Longball).
