Ganstead Park professional Mike Smee loses cancer battle

Mike Smee, professional at Ganstead Park for 37 years, passed away last month from prostate cancer at the age of 60.

He moved to the East Riding club after completing his training at Hull Golf Centre and later worked in partnership with his younger brother Dave.

“He was a typical club pro who put the members first,” said Dave, 16 years his junior.

"He played mostly social golf because of his commitments to the club, although he competed in pro-ams during the early part of his career.

“He was particularly proud of teaching his grand-daughters to play.”

Smee is survived by his wife Geraldine and sons Mark and Andrew,
