Surrey-based PGA Professional Gary Marks has set his stall out just days after securing his place on the 2015 European Senior Tour.
Marks, based at World of Golf in New Malden, will be teeing up alongside the likes of Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam having sealed one of six cards via Qualifying School in Portugal last week.
The 51-year-old former PGA No 1, admitted it has taken a few days for the achievement to set in after the intensity of the four-day shootout.
He said; “You think about enjoying it the days and weeks before going to Q school. You think you’re going to be overjoyed and overcome but when it’s done you just sit there and are just so exhausted as your focus is about keeping it all together.
“But now I’ve come home there’s a real a sense of satisfaction that I delivered. Last year I got the 14th card and I got one start from that, which I didn’t go to but now that I know I’ve got the year I can plan everything.”
The full schedule has yet to be revealed but Jersey, Switzerland, Germany as well as Woburn and Sunningdale are all lined up.
Marks will have to wait until the start of summer to get into the thick of the action and continue a path already successfully trodden by a number of PGA pros making the transition to Tour regulars.
“PGA Professionals have a good record on the European Senior Tour. Simon Brown won twice last year and Paul Wesselingh’s success of Rookie of the Year and then Order of Merit winner is well documented,” he added.
“I think the success of PGA players has caught a number of the Tour regulars off guard. This is my first Tour card and gives me an opportunity to go out there and win. I don’t plan to follow in anyone else’s footsteps but make my own.”
